Papua New Guinea
Before going to Papua New Guinea, I read The Lost Rainforest. What first pulled me in was a small detail about sago; what stayed with me were the lone boats at sea, feathered bodies in the rainforest, schoolrooms, village children, and instruments on a ship bridge. By the end of the journey, I still had not tasted sago. Travel is sometimes like that: you think you came for an answer, but what remains is the small regret that never quite closed.
